2010 Book of the Year

Out of the 127 books that I have reviewed in 2010, which is the best? There were six books that I found particularly outstanding. Prophet of Purpose by Jeffrey Sheler gives a highly engaging and inspiring account of the life of Rick Warren. Sticky Teams by Larry Osborne is probably the best book on church leadership team management that I have read. The Christian Atheist by Craig Groeschel  points out in a non-judgmental way likely key areas of sin in the reader’s life.

Church in the Making by Ben Arment is one of the best books on church planting ever written, with key insights into where the people who are going to come to a new church are likely to come from. Exponential by Dave and Jon Ferguson provides a gripping account of the planting of Community Christian Church as an impact church which became a reproducing church and then a catalyst for a movement.

But the winner of this year’s ChooseTheCross.com Book of the Year Award is Cracking Your Church’s Culture Code by Samuel Chand. The book manages to describe in a coherent logical way something that most church leaders intuitively sense but do not have the vocabulary to express – church culture. It will be a significant help to church leaders in dealing with change, conflict and problem people.
