Kenya in 2030

VisionBy the year 2030, Kenya will be “a globally competitive and prosperous nation with a high quality of life”, if the Kenyan government’s Kenya Vision 2030 comes to fruition. To achieve this vision, the three main strategic thrusts are: Economic: to maintain a sustained economic growth of 10% per annum over the next 25 years; Social: a just and cohesive society enjoying equitable social development in a clean and secure environment; Political: an issue-based, people-centered, result-oriented, and accountable democratic political.

The conditions required for achievement of the vision have been identified as: macroeconomic stability for long-term development; continuity in governance reforms; enhanced equity and wealth creation opportunities for the poor; infrastructure; energy; science, technology and innovation; land reform; human resources development; and public service reforms. Six key sectors have been identified as drivers of economic growth: tourism, agriculture, wholesale and retail trade, manufacturing for the regional market, business process offshoring, and financial services.

The key elements of the vision for social development include education and training; the health sector; water and sanitation; the environment; housing and urbanisation; gender, youth and vulnerable groups; and equity and poverty elimination. The key elements of the vision for political improvement include the rule of law, electoral and political processes, democracy and public service delivery, transparency and accountability, and security, peace-building and conflict management.
