Inspiration to start the change process

It is critical for us to master the principles that will allow us to survive and thrive in the culture of disruption that is rapidly becoming our future, according to Phil Cooke in his book Jolt: Get the Jump on a World That’s Constantly Changing. Understanding the power of change and how to make it work for us allows us to take back control of our lives, making the right choices rather than having choices forced on us.

The book is a manual for dealing with change. Some of the lessons provided by the author:

  • To move on, we need to realise the benefit, learn to live with ambiguity, expect to lose some friends, and start with a clean slate when it comes to “how”.
  • To make better choices, find the best information available, find good decision makers and learn from them, make good decisions every day, make tough decisions on a regular basis, and begin to grow in the choices you make.
  • Your growth may be stagnating if you lack influence, you are not being promoted, you have lost interest in your job, and you don’t enjoy co-workers and associates.
  • To overcome insecurity, be willing to take a risk, learn to laugh at yourself, start thinking realistically, and reward yourself for the little victories.

In this book the reader will find plenty of material to inspire him or her to start the change process, face up to fears, think clearly about appropriate goals, and overcome barriers to creativity. I found the content both entertaining and helpful, and would recommend the book to anyone who feels stuck in a rut or threatened by the pace of change in the world today.
