Immediate opportunities to help

My friend, William Eyika, who serves the urban poor in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, has started a blog on which he discusses issues associated with community development in Africa. As the director of the Dagoretti Corner Self-Help Group, William provides inspiration and arranges resources for a number of projects including schools and vocational training programs. He has posted a few stories about people who have immediate needs of assistance.

Lynette lived in the Kibera slums for twenty years until last Friday when her landlord demolished her house, notwithstanding a court injunction. Her household goods were looted, and her family is sleeping in the open. They are urgently in need of basic household items and money to rebuild a meat-selling business which she ran in co-operation with other ladies until it was destroyed earlier this year in riots which followed a disputed presidential election.

Beatrice is a school leaver who is the breadwinner for a household, and she is hoping to find some funds to start up a hairdressing business. William and Grace are seeking further funds for a house which they believe will significantly increase the effectiveness of their work. Various single mothers who have been taking tailoring classes are seeking funds to purchase simple manual sewing machines. If you would like to help make someone’s Christmas significantly brighter, please fill in the form on the Contact Us page of William’s website.
